Greenbelt Station Community Tree Caging Event
Saturday, May 4, 2024 – 9AM
Be a part of the community effort to protect trees from beaver herbivory at Greenbelt Station. Volunteers will work with Greenbelt Station Activities and Ground Committee members to place wire caging around the trunks of trees by the front and back ponds to protect them from beaver damage.
Beavers chew on tree trunks for food and collect wood material for their dams and lodges. Tree caging, wrapping a 3- to 4-foot-high wire fence around a tree trunk, is a great method to discourage beavers from falling trees.
We will meet at the back pond at the end of Greenbelt Station Parkway. Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. We will provide caging supplies and some gloves, but volunteers are welcome to bring their gloves to the event. For any inquiries, please reach out to management at greenhoa@ciramail.com.
